World Cup 2026 in Austin: Where to Watch + Why Wings Are the Move
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest watch party in American history — 104 matches across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, all summer long. Austin isn't hosting a single game, and somehow that makes it the perfect soccer town. Here's where to watch, how to follow the USMNT, and why wings belong on every table.

From June 11 to July 19, 2026, the World Cup takes over three countries and 16 cities — the first 48-team tournament ever, and the most-watched soccer event the U.S. has ever hosted. The opener alone, a 4–1 USMNT win over Paraguay with a Folarin Balogun brace, became the most-watched men's national team broadcast in American history at nearly 16 million viewers. The country has soccer fever, and Austin is no exception.
Austin isn't a host city — so it's a watch-party town
No matches are being played in Austin. The nearest action is up I-35 in Arlington, where AT&T Stadium hosts nine games — more than any other venue, including a semifinal — and down in Houston, where NRG Stadium hosts seven, plus one of the eight official FIFA Fan Festival fan zones (about a 2.5–3 hour drive if you want the in-person spectacle). But you don't need a ticket to Arlington to feel it. Austin does what Austin does best: turns it into a citywide party with great food and cold drinks.
Where to watch the World Cup in Austin
Austin FC built an entire Soccer Celebration around the tournament — including a free 37-day viewing hub at Inn Cahoots in East Austin showing all 104 matches through the Final, and big-screen opening-weekend viewings at Auditorium Shores downtown. Beyond that, the city's soccer bars are in full swing:
- Haymaker (Manor Rd) — repeat “Best Sports Bar” winner and the unofficial American Outlaws HQ in Austin.
- Scholz Garten — the historic downtown beer garden screening every match with pints and patio space.
- The Tavern (W. 12th) — 30+ TVs and an early open for the morning kickoffs.
- Cuatro's near the UT campus and Shiner's Saloon downtown, both longtime gathering spots for U.S. soccer and Los Verdes supporters.
Specials and hours change fast during the tournament, so check ahead before you go — but the point stands: there's a screen and a crowd for every match somewhere in this town.
Following the USMNT
The U.S. men sit atop Group D after the Paraguay result. Two big ones are next: USA vs. Australia on Friday, June 19 (Lumen Field, Seattle) — likely deciding who tops the group — and USA vs. Türkiye on Thursday, June 25 (SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles). The group stage wraps June 27, and the knockout rounds kick off June 28. Translation: clear your Friday afternoon, grab wings, and find a screen.
Why wings are the official food of soccer Saturdays
Here's the thing about a 90-minute match with no commercial breaks: you need food you can eat with one hand while the other's ready to throw up in celebration. Americans go through an estimated 1.4 billion wings on Super Bowl Sunday for exactly this reason — wings are the undisputed champion of watch-party food. Shareable, sauced, built for a crowd, and impossible to eat quietly. Soccer's big moments deserve the same treatment.
So while you're watching the world's best go at it this summer, treat the group stage like spring training for your palate. Try the Nashville hot. Argue about wet vs. dry. Find your team and find your sauce. Then bring all of it to the main event in November — see our guide to the best wings in Austin to get a head start.
The World Cup is your warm-up. November is the main event.
The 3rd Annual Austin Chicken Wing Festival lands Saturday, November 7, 2026 at the Travis County Expo Center — all-you-can-eat wings from 11 vendors, live music, and a People's Choice vote. Lock in your tickets while they're still at their best price.
