Best Wings in Central Texas (2026 City-by-City Guide)
Austin gets the headlines, but great wings live all over Central Texas — from Round Rock and Pflugerville to San Marcos, Georgetown, and the Killeen area. Here's where to find them, region by region.
By the Austin Chicken Wing Festival team
“Central Texas” stretches well beyond the Austin city limits — and so does its wing scene. The same mix of Southern frying, Texas smoke, and global flavors that makes Austin a wing town shows up in the suburbs and college towns that ring it. Below we go city by city, then point you to the one day a year you can taste a big slice of the region in a single afternoon.
Austin
The hub of the region's wing scene. You'll find smoked buffalo wings at Green Mesquite BBQ on Barton Springs, Nashville-style heat at Hattie B's, bold Cajun wings at The Potluck on Menchaca, and craft-beer-brined wings with a Lake Travis view at Oasis Texas Brewing Co. For the full rundown, see our guide to the best chicken wing spots in Austin.
Round Rock & Cedar Park
Austin's fast-growing northern suburbs punch above their weight for wings, anchored by Pluckers Wing Bar (the Austin-born chain) and a deep bench of sports bars and Korean and Vietnamese spots along the I-35 and 183A corridors. It's prime territory for game-day buffalo and dry-rub wings without the downtown parking hassle.
Pflugerville
Pflugerville quietly has one of the most interesting wing scenes in the region. The Gossip Shack serves wings in more than 50 flavors, and food trucks like Big Girl on Wheels turn out inventive options like Strawberry Hot and Honey Butter Crack.
Georgetown, San Marcos & the college towns
From Georgetown's square to the Texas State crowd in San Marcos, wings are a staple of the patio-and-pitcher scene. South of Austin in Manchaca, Ruthie's Food Trailer slings award-winning jumbo party wings worth the short drive.
Killeen & Harker Heights
North of the metro, the Fort Cavazos area has a loyal wing following. The Heights Pizzeria & Drafthouse in Harker Heights pairs bar wings with 35+ beers on tap — and brings that Central Texas flavor down to the festival every year.
